Hizzy Run

Steve Hislop 5th memorial run, and another good turn out from the club, twelve members adding to the estimated twelve hundred bikes making the run. Joining the run at the Forth Road Bridge to the already three hundred bikes, more than in previous years and running thirty minutes late, and with no Police escort we were on our way. Dry roads and a overcast sky we slotted into the run, no stopping at Hillend, Abbington services would be the first stop, where the West would merge with the East, this swelling the numbers to the total. Police motorcyclists outriders in amongst the run, no doubt to curtail any thoughts of speeding, and as always mobile speed traps on the long straights and in built up areas, this made for a steady run with the usual exception. One bad accident on the A708 near The Gray Mares Tail, where a motorcyclist and a car had been in collision and to be informed on our arrival in Hawick of another accident on the same stretch of road, which resulted in a motorcylist fatality, this marred the run home.
